Phone is September's first word. Funny as we carry them with us more and more, I hear that employers are wishing young adults actually had the people skills to still hold a decent conversation on one, but texting and web browsing abound, while actually listening to the voice of someone while they are really speaking is becoming as abandoned an artifact of an earlier time as these type phones

@mace508@3rdxoff@mittens@cimes1@bobhuegel@daisy these were in our little airport lobby and even more amazing had current phone books in those covers. But when my phone died and I was in the big terminal at Dulles I couldn't find a phone and then realized I didn't know anyone's number anymore because my phone has them all, usually.
Well done spotting these rarities! There's a lot of hype here about phubbing - when people ignore the friends they are with to talk or message others on their phones...
i saw this the other day and meant to comment on it but someone came to my door. so here i am today. fav, Dixie. my son, who teaches middle school english, says children lack communication skills because they do not write letters or notes to others, they are not required to communicate, everything is 'instant" and abbreviated and also think all is done via social media. but parents are not only allowing - they are teaching this behavior. something we should all be thinking about.
