My life has been filled with books, and it started with these, the kids picture books that were always abundant in our house even when we were low on money for almost everything else. On the wall is the quilt from my crib that my grandmother made for me.
"You may have riches
and treasures untold
mountains of rubies and
boxes of gold
but richer than I
you never can be.
I had a Mother
who read to me."
Author unknown at least by me
three good things
1. My mom always making us a priority
2. the books that introduced me to a million ways people could be different and still be good people.
3. a life filled with family and wonders for both security and adventure
Your poem is a treasure, Dixie and brings back memories from when I was a child. We had a simple life but everything we did have was appreciated.....lots of books, paper dolls, games, homemade ornaments on the tree...... We just had the basics but as a family we were rich in so many other ways. Mom read to me every night, too and I'm about in tears now thinking of those days.....sigh. A beautiful photo and I love that quilt.
Your photo and this poem remind me of another poem (this one's a Seuss): "Fill your house with stacks of books, in all the crannies and the nooks." Love it!
You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be
I had a Mother who read to me.
