My two brothers cozied up together several years ago.
To update those who have been following my Brother Lance's hospital stay
So today, Friday the 23, it sounded like they were going to send Lance home again with ten days of intravenous antibiotics that my brother Brett would have to administer through a picc line, but even before he had been out of ICU in a regular room for long, he was getting groggy, and his eyes were changing color, and he was not eating, so he isn't going home. Instead, he has an appointment in a month for a scan by robotics at another hospital. They are going to try to get him transferred there and have the scan rushed through because they are starting to think he won't survive the month if they don't get answers before then. So home is out, and the 40th birthday was spent in hospital
then today
Maybe an answer was found at last. He had an inflamed gallbladder that was removed today. After the surgery an older Surgeon said it was the worst one he had seen in his career. Since September 1st he has been struggling to follow all the Dr.'s orders and saying he was doing good, but he kept getting sick every time he left the ICU and was taken off an IV of fluids and antibiotics. The surgery today was his fourth in the two months.
Oh goodness I hope this is a turnaround for him. No one should have to endure all those surgeries. I am sure it is so hard on everyone....here's hoping that recovery is about to begin!!!
fingers crossed for him. When my dad had pneumonia after he was deep into dementia, it took so long to figure out what was going on and one factor was that he was just unable to communicate well about what was happening.
@francoise I'd totally understand that. With my Mom her dementia is pretty progressed too, she communicates well about things that are only real to her and can't even remember who Lance is.
Lance, is pretty good at communication though, he is just afraid of being sick, so he Denys being sick to avoid having to stay in a hospital or go to a Dr. It started after my Grandma, and seven years later our Dad had long hospital stays and then died.
Oh Dixie, I hope that Lance will respond positively to this surgery and that he is now on the road to recovery. Thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
@summerfield No, I'm sad to say the news isn't good. I was told Friday afternoon that he is being readmitted to ICU with a breathing tube again. If he would not keep taking off his oxygen mask he could be in a regular room, but his O2 level was dangerously low after the surgery, and began to clear as soon as they inserted the tube. It appears he has pnuemonia, which is scary, but not necessarily a sign that the gall bladder wasn't the main problem.
