Soldier Float Preview

Edit-Update:

Jan 1, 2:30 am Pacific time.

Thank God for smart phones, otherwise I'd be without internet right now. I've been fighting with my computer for 2 hours and I'm waving the white flag.
I'll try again when I wake up, but it will all be somewhat anti-climatic then, won't it? Sigh.

Happy New Year!

Today I did something I've never done before. Didn't even know it was possible until I learned of it last night.

This morning I braved the crowds and headed to the Rose Bowl for a pre-parade viewing of the floats. I swear in all the years I've been in Pasadena I never knew such an event existed. But then, I never looked into it or thought about it before.
Initially, I thought I would have to pay, but parking was free and it was possible to see some of the floats from outside the chain link fence, so that's the route I chose.

I took lots of shots and will use this as an opportunity to take my first baby steps into making a collage. So many firsts for me today!
The collage may have to wait until after midnite when I get home from work, though.

I'm not sure if forethought was given to the placement of this float by the event managers, but the background of the trees couldn't have been better. :-)
Nice shot. That is very nice that they have this so people can get a better view of the floats or see them if they can not make the parade

Very impressive. Any idea what these are made of? They look as if they're carved out of wood but I guess that would make them too heavy xx

@psychographer
They were covered in some type of tree bark. It's always to interesting to see the effects they can get from different plant materials.

Look at you, just doing all sorts of things you never thought you'd do before you started picking up a camera on a regular basis.
