Foundation Stones

Sculptures by renowned artist Gordon Young, sited in the Urban Garden Bradford, known as Foundation Stones, were created and financed by money lender Provident Financial,
the Mansfield stone sculptures weigh at least a tonne each, took nine months to carve and was unveiled 18 July 1986
The two figures represent the personal relationship between the Provident agent and the customer as he went door to door collecting the weekly payment for the doorstep loan,
How unusual. And such evocative sculptures. They convey the situation perfectly to me.

They are so interesting facing each other like that across the doorstep. I can remember them coming to the door to collect the payments :-)

@peterlgrave Thanks Peter for your comments to quote their ad "Our face to face service with Provident, a local agent will deliver your cash loan to your doorstep and collect your manageable weekly repayments at a time and day that suits you" they have been helping families and communities for over 135 years, now offering cash loans between £100- £1,000 over a range of repayment terms. they provide a face to face weekly service which many customers may not get with other lenders:)

@onewing Thank you Babs I had seen these from a distance and decided to investigate, they are located on a plot of land 3 minutes walk from Bradford Town hall that they turned into a little park for shoppers and workers to sit and take their lunch or free time:)
