Sepia Postcard by pcoulson

Sepia Postcard

My attempt at a Victorian style postcard of Lister Park taken today.
Your post started me wondering when postcards first started. I think the idea is almost out of date now with the possibility to send photos instantly online. This postcard looks absolutely genuine.

@quietpurplehaze Thank you for your lovely comments Haze I suspected they started with the advent of the British postage service and the issue of postage stamps, the penny black was first issued in 1870 so possibly around then, may be I'll have to do some googling, lol:)

@quietpurplehaze Looks like I got it wrong Hazel found this in my search:-
The first printed advertising postcard appeared in 1872 in Great Britain. The first German card appeared in 1874. In the United States, the earliest known exposition postcard appeared in 1873, showing the main building of the Inter-State Industrial Exposition in Chicago, every day is a school day, lol:)

Looks really good in sepia. Interesting to read the history too. I will have to Google it and find out more.

@onewing Thank you for your comments and interest Babs, just be a little careful in your research, I typed in Victorian Postcards and got some surprising exotic results (dirty Victorians), lol:)

@pcoulson

It probably was as a result of the start of postal services as you said. Just took them a little while to realise the benefits of it!
