More water than usual running across the road today, to explain, A ford is a shallow place with good footing where a river or stream may be crossed by wading, or driving inside a vehicle getting its wheels wet.
In a follow up to Bab's comment - we have had several people drowned after being swept away in their cars. The official mantra now is "if it's flooded, forget it". It has given you a nice image though, with that sense of movement.
