We're in the middle of Coventry, at the terminus of the Coventry Canal (our boat is bottom right). The statue you might see just to left of centre is of James Brindlay, the engineer who was responsible for a significant part of the early canal development in the late 18th century. There were no canal engineers before there were canals (obviously), so they had to learn their skills "on the job", developing new techniques and solutions which would later enable the development of the railway network.
@yoland Yoland, it's The Count. The long term hire fleet that we've used on this occasion are all named after ranks in the peerage of the realm (Earl, Marquess, Duke etc).
Another interesting canal scene. I finde the development of the canals quite fascinating, as was the development of new techniques to allow development. Fav!
never realized that the first engineers of canals helped the railway develop
