After our descent of 20 locks yesterday, and in today's sweltering heat, we have moored up in a secluded spot east of the Shrewley Tunnel and done very little!
The canal builders chose to tunnel under Shrewley, rather than the more expensive option of building locks through the village. As a result, this little area is a shady, damp haven for all kinds of flora and fauna and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It's one of those unintended curiosities of the canals which make the whole network so interesting.
Thank you for your recent comments and support, all very much appreciated.
A perfect place to rest. Fav. I'm enjoying your narrowboat journey and remembering the names of some of the places you've passed through. Keep on narrow boating!
