100 Strangers : No. 19 : Dean (Volunteer for Prostate Cancer)
On Saturday Bolton Wanderers were hosting a "Men United Match Day at the Bolton Wanderers v Burnley match" to make people aware of prostate cancer
As I walked around the stadium prior to the match there were several volunteers with buckets collecting donations for the prostate UK charity. It was rapidly approaching kick off time so I did not have much time to approach a stranger.
I put a donation into the bucket of a young man named Dean and asked him if I could take his picture for my project .
Dean said yes and to my surprise his colleague Laura asked if I would take her picture too (Laura was my previous stranger, number 18).
I did a head and shoulders shot for Dean as his High Vis White Bib / Jacket would have been difficult to expose correctly against the grey blue brickwork.
As volunteers Dean and Laura got free tickets to the match. Not that it was much fun if you were a Bolton Wanderers supporter as we lost 2-1 to a late goal (poor game management as we should have seen the game out when we were winning 1-0)
Everything you need to know about prostate cancer can be seen in the link below.
This picture is number 19 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
Fav. Another fab portrait, Phil. I agree with you about the white jacket even though I am very uncertain when I come to take portrait shots. I enjoy reading your asides about Bolton Wanderers - so sorry for them for losing the match close to the final whistle.
@nicoleterheide awww thanks nicole
@quietpurplehaze Haze, I don't really direct the strangers, they all just tend to strike up a pose, I might move myself to get an angle or POV :)
@sangwann thanks dione , ass for bolton wanderers, it is desperate times to be a wanderer :(
