We went to Leicester this afternoon to visit the Riverside Festival. I didn't realise Leicester had a river running through it's centre. The festival was a short walk from the city centre and was centred along the banks of the River Soar close to the De Montfort University.
This is where I met Roger. Roger was promoting the Abbey Pumping Station Museum and was stood next to his old vintage "bubble car" and an old vintage delivery truck.
Roger handed me a leaflet about the pumping station and we started talking about the museum. I mentioned that we had travelled from Nottingham and we had a pumping station local to us, Papplewick. Roger told me that Abbey was linked with Papplewick and they regularly met to exchange ideas.
I asked Roger about some of the events held at Abbey pumping station and did they have theme weekends as Papplewick had several of these throughout the year. I told Roger we had thought about going to the 1940's theme weekend at the Great Central Railway (a few miles up the road from the riverside festival), but had rejected the idea based on the cost of £23-00 per person. Roger agreed that the price seemed rather high.
As well as a bubble car, Roger has a old French sports car. He said he would love to drive it around Le Mans. I told him Bolton (many of you will know I am a Bolton Wanderers supporter) was twinned with Le Man, so he might ride sown La Rue de Bolton in his car !
Roger visits France on a regualr basis as he has a holiday home there.
Roger was a friendly face of the Abbey Pumping Station and we will probably pay a visit to it in the future.
I told Roger I would email him some of the pictures I took of him. He was happy for me to publish my picture in the strangers project.
