SHERWOOD FOREST : LOG CLEARING by phil_howcroft

SHERWOOD FOREST : LOG CLEARING

I did not see anyone wearing 'lincoln green' tights , funny hats and carrying bow and arrows to rob the rich to give to the poor yesterday in Sherwood Forest !! I could not see any Maid Marians either !!(

BTW: I'm a day behind uploading !!

There was however a demonstration by some shire horses. They were clearing logs from the forest from some trees that had been felled.

This was hard to photograph as there were areas of light and dark in the woods and a few of the images were a little over exposed. This one turned out OK.

The horse and the man are a little small in the frame, but I wanted to show them in context and show the viewer some of the forest too.

This is nearly straight out of the camera, the only post processing is a bit of cropping and a slight bit of levels adjustment in Photoshop elements.
I love the scale and tones

Gorgeous horse and look at the size of that tree in the background. You did well with the color, it seems to me, Phil. :)

@meredithwb Thank you Meredith, I think I got the colour right for this shot as the bright sun in the woods briefly dissappeared for a few minutes

@sarahhorsfall Sarah, there's a lot of old big trees in the Forest, I di not really notice how big the tree was until I ploaded the image (too busy concentrating on the horse)

Very good detail. I love those big work horses. They seem so philosophical and long suffering. He's got some beautiful accessories!

Beautiful and interesting...not something you see everyday.

@patsyjphillips Thank you Patsy. England is such a small country in comparison to America, so you can always find something interesting not too far away. This location was about 25 minutes drive away.

@allie912 Thanks Allison, they do indeed look philosophical and sometimes they seem to know more about things than us. She was well cared for, she looked in good conditon

Horse and tree - some of my favourite things.
Good stuff.

@kerristephens Thank you Kerri, it was a friendlly horse, it let you stroke it and it posed for photos between pulling the logs !

@sbconifer Thank you Sheryl, it is not something that happens very often. Although the horses were working for the afternoon, they were there to attract tourists too :)
