DELAYED HERE EVERY NIGHT ! by phil_howcroft

DELAYED HERE EVERY NIGHT !

On my commute home from work I have to cross a both a railway and tram level crossing.

In the rush hour it takes anything from 5 to 15 minutes to cross this junction.

Ever since I joined 365 I've wanted to stop at the front of the queue so I can take a picture of the setting.

Monday was my errrrr...lucky day ! After several traffic light changes I found myself at the front of the queue.

I got my mobile phone out of my pocket and took a few pictures through the front windscreen of my car...capturing my wait.

The light was good, the windscreen quite clean so here is my collage of the wait:

- First of all nothing happens for a minute

- Then a tram 'to the city' passes through the crossing (there is a tram stop just left of the traffic light)

- Nothing happens for another minute

- Then another tram arrives 'from' the city.

That's it, the lights change and I am on my way again. If you are really lucky a train passes by too.

You may ask why commute by car?
Why not use the tram yourself?

Well it's impossible to get to my place of work by public transport in time for the start of business !

It's quite an urban scene and the resolution is lost a bit by the picnic editor, but I hope you like the story and the effect !

Phil
Lovely collage. Sorry you had to wait

you just captured the frustration of commuters worldwide! Love it!

@kerristephens thanks Kerri, you get used to waiting, you just people watch and listen to the radio as you crawl through the junction. Oh and keep your eyes in the road too !

@anron Anita, thanks for the comments, I do like seeing the trams rattling by though !

@joi He He Joi, frustration is a good word for commuting !

Well done for 're-framing' a potentially annoying delay into a photo opportunity - I like the 'storyboard' effect of the collage :o)

haha... good series.. I also have to wait at a train crossing and those minutes seem to last forever sometimes..

@sarahhorsfall Sarah, thanks for that, I quite like the picnic editing for creating a collage. I was just going to post one picture but then decided one picture didn't really capture what I wanted to say !

@gill Thanks for commenting. I suppose I'm a bit sad hoping to get to the the front of the queue to take a picture. I suppose I was lucky that I had good light on the first occassion I got there !

@andycoleborn Andy thanks for the comments, as for minutes seeming to last forever that's a good call. In fact you end up thinking I was at least 10 cars further ahead this time yesterday !!

Great shot Phil, I live near a raliway crossing and have been meaning to capture life at the crossing. Ours are controlled from London even though we're 30 miles away - we can wait up to 25 minutes if the timings are wrong!!

@phil_howcroft I have a cunning plan... I sit on the 7th carriage so usually by the time i'm out of the station, the train has left and the barrier is up. Doesn't always work but ok for most days..

Great shot ! it's a really interesting job Phil !

@libellula Thank you Libellula, it is very kind of you :)

very clever! I really like the way you put it all together! every day????grrr

@jenlyn999 Jennifer, thanks :) I had to shoot quick because the traffic lights could change any second. I can go an alternate route to avoid the crossing but that means using another busy road !
