RUBBISH !!! by phil_howcroft

RUBBISH !!!

The title is possibly a statement on the quality of this image, but also possibly a statement on how people respect (or don't respect) the area they live in.

This image is shot at the end of the row shops (near where I work) that I shot yesterday.

This appears to be the entrance to the flats.

What shocked me was the litter / rubbish / trash strewn at the bottom of the stairwell. I don't know the procedure for disposing of rubbish in these apartments / shops, I don't live anywhere near where I work (I live a long way from the office), but surely the procedure doesn't involving dumping rubbish bags in a stairwell !!

Not the best of compositions (I should have got down lower) and I've colour popped the image to try and make a bit more impact !

However I wanted the image to speak for itself, although I've spoke quite a lot too.

Shot on my HTC desire mobile phone and colour popped in Photoshop elements !
Yep... an all too common sight. Where I live there are communal pallidin bins yet my wonderful neighbours still just open the bin shed door and dump thier bag on the floor - as if lifting the bin lid is soooooooo much effort...

Interesting image!!

Maybe they left the trash there while they did something inside and were going to take it to the trash bins later?

It is disheartening when people don't respect themselves enough to take care of their environment. You were inspired to pop the purple.

Phil, I really like the lines and textures in this shot. And your decision to select the purple fits perfectly with your commentary. Nice one!

Like the B & W for a bit of gritty urban realism - glad you didn't colour that puddle! Some poor soul's got to come and clear up all that rubbish that the foxes/cats have attacked and strewn around....

@andycoleborn Hi Andy, not an ideal picture for an image, but it makes a statement , thanks for commenting
March 30th, 2011
@kerristephens Kerri, I think the rubbish was there for some time !!

@allie912 Allison, disheartening is an excellent word to describe the scene. The purple does make an impact

@cath Catherine, thanks for the comment, I hope you don't have similar problems in Cape Town

@judithg 'gritty urban realism' , I think that just about sums up this sad scene ! Thanks for stopping by

I think this pic sums up some of our society. Not good is it? :(
March 30th, 2011
@anron Anita, unfortunatley you are right, it's not good !
March 30th, 2011
Yes, why are some people so distrespectful of everyone else's living space? The picture speaks for itself...such a shame! great shot though Phil - it's what I guess we call "real life"
March 30th, 2011
Its cool how you did the color pop! I haven' tried that! Too bad the situation "stinks"! Nice job!

Looks great this.. at first i thought it was someone asleep a the bottom of the steps.
Littering is such an anti-social and disrespectful behaviour.

Wow, quite an impact this photo has. Selective coloring really works well to bring the eye into this shot. Well done and a sad state of behaviour!

@sparkle Thanks Juliette, real life indeed, not the best of subjects 'interest wise' though !

@jenlyn999 Thanks Jeniffer, you should try 'colour popping' it's not too difficult and in the right circumstances can make a good impact

@gill Gill thanks for your comments. I don't know if anybody saw me taking a picture of rubbish with my mobile phone !! Perhaps if they did , they may have thought I was from the council. I was wearing a 'high vis' bib though (because we have towalk across the factory floor when we leave the office) so I could have passed for somebody in authority ! The rubbish is a sad reflection of English life though !

@sleepdozer57 Cheers Peter, anti social behaviour is a good way to describe what I caught, unfortunately there's too much of it about !

@seattle Thanks Constance, I don't know if I should be photographing images like this, but sometimes we need to show 'sad states of behaviour', Thanks again

@phil_howcroft Ha ha I once took a pic of an ice cream van in Bedford cos it had ace hand done art work of a very naive character. The owner came running out to check I if I was from the council! I managed to persuade him I liked the van so much for its artistic merit that I wanted a photo of it for my collection!
