Shot outside Wikinson's (aka Wilkos) in Arnold, Nottingham
It is time to plant our summer bedding plants in the UK and this gentleman seems to be struggling with the large selection and variety available outside the store.
Quite a large crop to take out unwanted pavement.
I like the posters in the windows. I thought of B/W because there is not as much colour in the plants as I would have wanted.
I'll be putting my hanging baskets up this weekend so I should get a few pictures of them throughout the summer.
Great observation! I wonder what is causing him the indecision: lack of dosh? Not quite the right colours? Will they fit? Will they look too sparse? Has the danger of frost passed yet? My busy lizzeis are in and some marigolds in the trough in the cubby hole outside the flat. I used to have a grand allotment in York and I miss it terribly even after all these years. I have never attempted hanging baskets. I saw a programme on TV with loads of people really railing against them as being vulgar! I was amazed at the animosity a few plants in the air could rouse in the likes of Janet Street Porter she was nigh on spitting fire!
Good old Wilkos. I reckon he's overwhelmed by choice. Great capture Phil and looking forward to seeing your hanging baskets on 365. @whippeteer I agree with you - how can pretty flowers rile people? and how can they be vulgar???
@sparkle thanks Juliette, wilko is a great shop, don't know if you have them down your way, it doesn't really specialise in flowers though, but they do have some bargains occasionally (we've got a fabulous gooseberry bush that came from there a few years ago)
@whippeteer Frances, thanks for the comments and it is hard to believe that anybody could get wound up about baskets of flowers. I think our high streets and suburban streets look really good in the height of summer when they are full of colour and in full bloom
I'll be buying my hanging baskets this weekend as well. Hope when I plant something it survives this year - I seem to kill everything (except hostas and allium)! ;-)
I got the feeling it had an undercurrent of sneering at the working class love of bright colourful (garish even) displays of flowers to brighten the place up. Pure snobbery from JPS the dinner lady's daughter! Bring it on that's what I say!
what say.
Bedding plants have been in the ground for a month here in Richmond. It is fun to choose and you should take your time because your planning for a whole season,
what say.
