This is an image from our 'day trip' to London, but as I didn't take any photos yesterday, I've posted a monochrome picture of St.Pancras.
I don't know if I should have had the shopping arcade / mall underneath me more central to give the image a bit more symmetry, but then I would have lst the curves of the roof
Things you can see ...shops, people, champagne bar and a bit of the 'eurostar train'
Anyway this is from my little Panny TZ7 as we wait for our East Midlands train back to Nottingham
The people in the concourse look a little Lowry-esque
I have never been to this station but of course seen pictures of it since it has been transformed into the International station that it is . I am most impressed with the roof & think it looks stunning ! It makes a brilliant black & white photo but I would also like to see it in colour !!!! Looks really good Phil, well done !
@andycoleborn andy yes it looks like we were . I think you got better light than me , but i do tend to tone down my B/W's and go a bit contrasty ....I had this shot in mind when I saw yours...I was going to do it the other way, but the Olympic rings block out the beautiful clock
@judithg thank Judith, well to rectify the 'never been to St. Pancras' issue...I think you should take a trip to Paris on the Eurostar...lol...lots of photo opportunities at both ends :) ....remember to pack an extra SD card ....christmas shopping in Paris...sorted :)
@happypat thanks Pat, I do get carried away with B/W...It was dark outside so there was not much light coming through the vertical glass at the end of the station.....if it was daylight I might have posted colour :)
I really like the perspective on this. I think it gives it more life.
Just one question, Phil - It that the poorliest Christmas Tree in the world that I can see there????
This looks impressive - and especially interesting in b/w... Been to London many years ago, but I did not see this station.
Phil, as far as the Christmas tree is concerned... don't worry, it looks pretty small, so it doesn't dominate the picture. ;-) And the lines are leading one's view away from the tree. :-)
Great shot Phil, superb lighting - looks like the ones I took and didn't post on my 365 - it's such a great building - and B&W suits it perfectly - also night time shooting is best too (the best of the light outside has gone here I see) - a great job! Glad you didn't get the station police after you!
Beautiful composition, both angles and tones. It reminds me a bit of Union Station in Washington DC which has wonderful shops and lovely architectural details. Well done on the fly!
@shadowdancer thanks shadow, many years ago it was an old neglected station, but once it was announced as the hub for eurostar it had lots of money spent on it to rejuvenate it to its former glory and also modernise it with the shops and malls.
I did try to get the tree at a bit of an angle.
thank you for all the kind words and your continued support on here
@sparkle thanks juliette, the 'camera police' seem very tolerant at St. Pancras, there are lots of police around ...with it being a big transport hub.... but as it is a very photogenic building they don't seem to bother with a 50 something bloke wandering round the station with his little panny clicking away !!!
