Street Lights and Spires by phil_howcroft

Street Lights and Spires

This is Newark On Trent, in Nottinghamshire.

I'm off work this week and we went to Newark for this afternoon.

This is Newark Parish church spire contrasted against some street lamps in the market place.

I shot quite wide angle, so I got some 'converging verticals'. I straightened the spire a bit, but left the street lights 'converging' (OK I didn't know how to straighten two converging verticals in one image !!)

Converted to monochrome

BTW : The clock is wrong !
great contrast in items works well in b&w

Great POV and B&W tones and lights - great job Phil. The clouds were fantastic today, especially around the Notts area

Modern electric light & an old church steeple work well together against that sky & a good POV looking up like that !

Love the use of black and white

Wonderfully clear B&W. Love the contrast of the gauzy clouds and the sharp lines of the spire.

Great shot and particularly interesting for me as I have now learnt a bit about converging verticals - something new for me to think about, so thanks Phil!

Thats great, b&w really gives a shot drama doesn't it? Hmm spires and verticals oh dear, something new to try!!

This is a great shot Phil. You've got the perspective just perfect between the two structures and the B&W is an absolute winner

@tishpics Patricia, I'm pleased you like this little study of Newark , converging verticals can add drama to a shot, but make life difficult for people who are trying to do an accurate architecture shot

@happypat thanks Pat, the shot was just crying out to be captured
