Menorcan Sea Horses on the Camí de Cavalls

I'd seen a woden gate on google earth that looked very pretty and photogenic (yes I was going to photogrpah a wooden gate !!!)

Anyway the gate was about a 2km walk along the beach. We were on the beach by 9.15 am and I left the wife reading her book as I set off to take a picture of the gate.

When I got there the gate was too hard to photograph, but I had a great surprise because at the end of the beach I could see some horses on top of the cliffs.

I started clicking away and then to my even greater surprise the horses descended from the top of the cliff and went for a paddle in the sea

It was a really quick photoshoot as they only paddled for a few minutes. This is shot contre jour as I ran after them.

The sun was still low and has helped create a nice shimmer on the sea.

I really wanted the horses approaching me rather than walking away, but I am quite pleased with the shot.

I've got one of a young lad on his mountain bike chasing them (about 3 shots before this), but that did not work quite as well as there was no separation between the horses (they were bunched together a bit)

The location of the shot is part of the ' Camí de Cavalls' a coastal path that has been reclaimed and restored by the local government and runs all around the island of Menorca

Anyway I think this is my fave shot from my holiday / vacation
Beautiful

It's gorgeous Phil - they would probably have stayed longer if they hadn't been chased by a mad bloke with a camera :0) !!

@judithg thanks judith .....i think seeing horses in water is quite a moving experience...my wife was 'gutted' she didn't come on the walk...we went back same time next day ...but they didn't reappear !!!

It's iconic - one of those surreal moments. Excellent shot.

Not surprised you like this Phil as you always like a ''contre jour'! They show up really well against the sea in that low light plus the foot prints in the sand are a bonus. I am impressed you saw a gate on Google Earth & then went looking for it,,,I never knew you could see such detail!!! Is this the same holiday place as last year|?

It's really beautiful and I particularly like the last pale horse which is stunning. I think this has to be a Fav!

@happypat thanks Pat, yes same location as last year , although last year we spent most of the time on the beach , but this year we went out and about a bit more ! When you are on google earth there is a little 'check box' that lets you see images that people have uploaded for the location you are in...I have a few images on google earth !!!

I know it's horses but I'm still humming the Chariots of Fire tune!

I loved this picture when I saw it last week and I was sure I had commented, but apparently not. It is a wonderful combination of natural beauty, graceful horses and relaxed riders. I like the fact they are moving away. It makes them appear unconcerned about being photographed.
