Contemporary Steps by phil_howcroft

Contemporary Steps

These are the steps at the side of the Nottingham Contemporary Art Gallery.

The lady walking up the steps had been drinking underneath the tram bridge with some 'friends'

I think the bottle she is carrying is strong cider (I saw her friends topping her bottle up from a big 'value pack' bottle !

Edited in GIMP with auto levels, a bit of straightening, a crop , a G'MIC filter to add some dynamic range to the shot

I was going to do this in mono, but the ladies colours seem to compliment the steps and the splash of colour in her top seems to add to the composition
Nice capture :)

Such great strong visuals, Phil! No matter how hard I try to line up the horizontal lines of a composition, they always need a little "straightening"!

@allie912 thanks allison, I got some people coming down the steps walking towards the camera, but this 'lone walker' seemed to work better

@willowdragon thanks Al

I'm glad you didn't catch her falling down the steps! What one sees with a camera!

I don't think ladies drink strong cider under tram bridges Phil ! Great capture Good story to go with it. Are the steps the equivalent of the white line?

@happypat thanks Pat, she is using the handrail which I think might be a good option :) ... oh yes the white line !

@maggiemae you are right maggie, but without my commentary you might have interpreted the shot differently, although the colour of her drink might give you a clue

Great colour against the grey of the steps

She appears to be some contemporary art herself! Love all the lines and the reflections.
