I went to my "home" match to watch my team play an "away" game. Confused? Probably as confused as the "makeshift" team my football club, Bolton Wanderers, put out when they visited Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
We conceded four sloppy goals (gifted to the opposition , to use a football cliché) as Bolton lost 4-1 to Forest.
One Wanderers player stretchered off after colliding with the goal post, our goalkeeper stretched off with head and chest injuries after colliding with a Forest player and one Wanderers player sent off for a second bookable offence in the 1st minute of the second half.
Such was the brittle and make do and mend nature of our team, we ended up with a 37 year old centre forward, playing centre half.
I've been to the last three "away" games...Rotherham , lost 4-2 (and had my wing mirror vandalised), Derby , lost 4-1, Forest lost 4-1.
TWELVE goals conceded £70+ spent on away tickets . Happy days being a Wanderer
At least it was only a 15 minute drive home as opposed to a 2.5 hours journey for those 1200+ Wanderers fans who made the journey to the City Ground, Trent Bridge, Nottingham
Oh dear Phil, not a good day. We only got a draw and blimmin Man City are creeping up behind us! I notice the conformity of dress here. What did we wear before jeans? Also like the composition of this.
@Cherrill thanks cherrill, you will win the league the "massives from manchester" won't catch you . Jeans can be a bit cold af the footie in winter, especially if you get wet walking to the ground. I wear tracky bottoms (I know tracky bottoms !!!) in the footie winter months :)
If I lived there and still played football I would have made it to the first team in these circumstances. Gone is the glory which once was Bolton Wanderers. It seems so frustrating to you and all Bolton supports. Best not to give up.
So much for the beautiful game but the litany of disasters make for hilarious reading - do you do a wanderes awAy blog - you should! You certainly get entertained but not in quite the way one might expect vandalism excepted of course. I love the shot - those stark uprights and splishes of red - the suffering for your art is worth it 😊
