Last week when I was looking for vintage lenses, we went into the Sue Ryder charity shop in Sherwood. When I asked the shop assistant if they had any vintage cameras / lenses, they directed me to the city centre shop, as that shop specialised in "vintage everything" including camera :)
Today we had arranged a family meal in Nottingham , so before we all met up for the meal, I went to the city centre vintage shop.
At the shop , I met assistant manager Lucy. She showed me the camera section and we went through the shelves looking at the items. Unfortunately there wasn't anything suitable for me. Lucy told me the stock was a bit depleted as they had sold lots of cameras yesterday. "We have a reputation for having them , so they tend to go quick" said Lucy.
Lucy was wearing a lovely outfit and her make up was fabulous, so I thought I would ask her if she would let me photograph her for my project. Lucy said it was fine and due to her extravagant clothing , she was often asked for photos. I told her that her outfit was fabulous.
Lucy has worked for the Sue Ryder charity for 6 moths. She had always worked in retail and always in retro / vintage. Her previous job was just vintage clother , but she loved the diversity of clothes, electricals and bric a brac at this shop.
The camera collection was just by the entrance to the shop, so I asked Lucy if it was OK for her to step in the doorway as the light was better.
As you can see Lucy's is very photogenic and her portrait shot is very striking and beautiful.
I took a few shots of Lucy and we continued our chat inside the shop.
I gave Lucy my card and said I would be a regular caller at her shop looking for vintage cameras and lenses.
Thank you for being strangers 160 Lucy, good luck with your job at Sue Ryder.

The Sue Ryder Charity supports people through the most difficult times of their lives. Whether that’s a terminal illness, the loss of a loved one or a neurological condition – they are there when it matters. The doctors, nurses and carers give people the compassion and expert care they need to help them live the best life they possibly can.
