I saw Kristina in Slab Square, Nottingham. She had a drawing pad and was drawing on it. I smiled and asked her what she was drawing. Kristina pointed to the building in front of her and showed me her pad.
She was drawing 33 Long Row, Nottingham, which is a grade II listed building. It was a cinema back in the day, but is now a Coral bookmakers
Kristina is an architect student at Nottingham Trent University and has just completed her first year. She often takes an hour out each day to draw buildings. Her course is about reusing old space. I asked her if she knew about Watson Fothergill who designed many of Nottinghams old buildings.
Kristina was sketching in pencil, she said she preferred to work in black and white.
I then asked Kristina if she would take part in my strangers project. I took some ‘headshot / portrait’ photos and then suggested I take some of her stood in front of the building, suggesting she stood on the wall she was sat on as that would help me get most of the building in the shot. As you can see Kristina posed in front of the building.
Kristina added me on Insta so she can see some of the photos I took of her.
I thanked her for letting me take her photo. She said it was good to help a fellow ‘Creative’ . I smiled and said I’d rarely been called a ‘creative’, all my career was spent in ICT, working with computers, so everything was 0’s and 1’s, binary, my career was more Science and Maths than creative. Kristina told me her partner was in to ICT.
We bumped hands and Kristina wished me a good afternoon.
FYI : I posted this and other photos of Kristina on Insta last night and she loves the photos
This Is a wonderful story Phil. Kristina is very pretty and I absolutely love the contrast between her casual attire against the very formal buildings. You chose a great POV too!
This perspective creates some really interesting scale, and highlights the building as well as Kristina. Nice to see her in the environment she enjoys. And I think you are definitely creative!
@stowgarden cherrill I've been on insta a few years but gave up after a while but nowadays most of my strangers are on insta', so it is an easy way of showing the photos to them by tagging them in the photos
