Thank-you for you response to Portrait of a Limpkin http://365project.org/photographycrazy/365/2019-11-23 . For some it was the first time hearing of or seeing a Limpkin. I thoguht I show you what a Limpkin looks like. Also captured at Sweetwater Wetlands Park.
This is a very interesting bird. I'm amazed that there are so many birds that are new to me. I like that you are showing this one as it moves about. Fav
I remember seeing limpkins during a trip to Florida a couple of decades ago; we had great birding including several visits to the Ding Darling protected area on Sanibel Island. I think a trip back is in order, now that I am retired.
@mzzhope I’ve only been to Sanibel once and did not see them. I’ve seen them at Black Point Wildlife Drive in Merritt Island NWR a few years ago and then recent at Sweetwater Wetlands Park near Gainesville. I was surprised to see them
@mjalkotzy If you get down here let me know and I’ll try to recommend places depending on your visit. One of my favorite places on the west coast is Fort DeSoto. Lots of shorebirds and wading birds.
