heritage day again at Lancaster town hall, which used to house the police station, the magistrates court and the fire station. This area had the same whiff of smells as did the castle prison cells
Funny how smells evoke such memories.... Of certain places....I always associate shoe polish with my early convent school days. At least the prisoners had a proper loo!

@ninaganci yes it was and smelt like one. But great that it had not been ripped out. there was about 6 cells like this one and used until the 1960/70's until the new station was built @quietpurplehaze No quite dark and creepy at night i imagine, interestingly the toilet did not have a chain the warden had to flush from outside the cell!!!!
