We were thrilled to spot this fine (presumably red-bellied) black snake from the foot bridge. It was quite happily sleeping in the warmth between storms and wasn't budging for anything - not even the circling sea eagle!
Great opportunity for a safe shot - these are quite venomous snakes.
They are beautiful snakes and though they are venomous and people do get bitten interestingly there has never been a recorded death from a red-bellied black snake in Australia.
@annied I believe that's true Annie, but I don't fancy being the first either :) Wylie 2 did put it to the test many years ago and survived to tell the tale!
@pusspup haha true - a friend of my daughter survived too - he was swollen and sore and feeling unwell
We are lucky in Australia - even though we have a number of venomous animals we also have the anti venom to combat the bites.
Super find and shot. I quite like these guys - they are always so unconcerned about anybody else. I remember seeing Zoe walking along behind one sniffing at its tail as it slithered along- it just ignored her completely...
