church in the centre of Cirencester

I actually thought this church was a cathedral because it is so large and decorative. The stonework is being cleaned and part of the church is now this lovely honey colour of the Cotswold stone and contrasts with the uncleaned grey part. The church was built on the profits of the wool trade (all those shorn sheep - or goats?!)
I'm not too sure about that chap in the middle sticking out his tongue. But maybe that action had a different meaning in a different century.....
Nice photo Hazel. I adore the architecture in these old historic churches. I am sure there is a story that goes with the middle chap - adds to the character of the building.

@creativeamateur Paula, thank you, I think there must be a story too but nothing to be found online.

Fascinating! I wonder if the middle sculpture might be an animal with body behind - rather like a panting dog?

@tishpics I think you are probably right and what (to me) looks like a sort of pixie hat, is actually an animal's body.

I thought that too at first .. But a little dog seems possible ... What does Jinx think?

Jinks is too busy not going out for a walk in the rain to think! It's very funny as he knows exactly how far he wants to go - about 50 yards and then turns tail and comes home.
