....the original cutting for this came from my parents' garden when we moved into this house 20+ years ago and now we have quite a large patch of bergenia.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Lovely shot Hazel - how nice to see some colour in your garden at this time of year. Not much happening in mine at the moment - my dog ate most of my bulbs last year when he was a tiny puppy!!
Karen, thanks and for appreciating the story. My mother died suddenly at our house a few months later so these bergenias are rather like a tribute to her. Long time ago now - 27 years.
You are a few months ahead with nature. We have a similar plant in our garden and the Dutch name for it is `` Schoenlappers plant`` ( +/- Cobbler plant )

Thank you. The bergenia has masses of flowers this year which also appeared quite early. I think I'm soon going to be tempted to bring a few into the house.

Thank you, Arthur. The bergenias are especially nice this year - maybe they like it wet and cold! I understand you missing your garden.
As long as your puppy did not suffer from eating the bulbs!
We just have these plus some purple hellebores - neither of them visible from the house but lovely to have them.

Thank you for your comment, as ever. There are so many more of these flowers this year.
This plant has been flowering for a while. I wonder why it has that name in Dutch?
Thank you. I think these stories have more significance as time goes on.
