'chocolate': It's official - the orange ones taste different.
Invited to lunch by our friends Helen and Julian @glenmoor, the conversation turned to orange Smarties. A quick Google of key words 'smarties' + 'colours' revealed a wealth of information AND.....the reason orange smarties taste different is that they contain orange-flavoured chocolate (nothing to do with the colour as I naively thought).
I can report from my limited research that of 30 smarties in a tube, 3 are orange. (What a lot of purple/mauve ones in this tube!)
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
I used to love Smarties - but they are really not the same now. They taste different somehow - there are no proper reds and very dark browns - and the green is no longer the correct shade! As for the flimsy hexagonal packets and no plastic lid with a letter on the other side - well don't get me started!! Health and Safety no doubt!!! Having got all that off my chest, a very nice shot Hazel, so colourful and the composition is great! (I could always detect the orange ones - and the green ones too!!)LOL!
@tishpics@miley89 You've made me notice that there are no red ones any more. And we found on Google some info about artificial colourings - note on the tube the 'no artificial colouring' boast.
@tishpics I liked the plastic caps too. I found one of the new lids with an H on but it was for Honey not Hazel...............
@quietpurplehaze We have a Smarties candy--but, it's totally different. It's a wafer and made by a different company. Do you have M&Ms? Your Smarties look like our M&Ms.
Yes, we do have M&Ms - I'm not really into them but I think they are a little bigger than Smarties..........Well to be truthful these are the first Smarties I've bought and eaten for years but I've always had that curiosity about the taste of the orange ones!
@quietpurplehaze On Thursday, I'll be near the store that might sell Smarties. The last time I was there, I noticed they had a big section of British food. If I can get them, I'll let you know what I think.
With the granddaughters coming at Easter I shall be able to justify buying some and if I'm quick enough, to take a few photos. I always tell them my favourite colour is yellow but they usually give me the brown ones as it's their least favourite colour. I also notice that the spellchecker on 365 prefers the US "favorite color" to the UK "favourite colour"!
I can`t remember when but I have taste them. They did`n`t overwhelm me , I never have it a second time . Are n`t there golden ones ?
Love the pic. nevertheless , it sure can be use for advertisement.
I shall look forward to your Smarties photos. I think mine have drawn more comments than most of my pics on 365 to date!! Re the US spelling, well the spellchecker here may prefer 'favorite color', BUT I understand it's hard, if not impossible, to buy Smarties in USA!
Oh Hazel, now I feel that I need to conduct some research into the contents of a smartie container :) Love the information you have provided with this great pic
They taste of/are filled with orange-flavoured chocolate as opposed to ordinary flavoured chocolate which is in all the others. And yesterday (in the interest of research) I opened another tube and found 6 orange smarties and one red one!
Well it's just that none of the others taste of anything different although I believe the chocolate in some other colours used to be flavoured!
@tishpics I liked the plastic caps too. I found one of the new lids with an H on but it was for Honey not Hazel...............
I still like them in spite of all the negative things we are saying about them!!!
That's probably why there are no red ones now - I didn't know that about the blue ones but there was some info about that colour.
No Smarties in the US - amazing!!!!!!!!

Maybe we should campaign for tubes of all orange Smarties! At least I understand why they taste different now.

ONLY if they pay me!!!

Well in 4 tubes I found only 1 red one!!!! Keep researching!!
