'arches' in Winchester cathedral in this glimpse of...
.....Norman Romanesque architecture which has been superseded in most of the interior by the Gothic style. Gothic is too ornate for my taste but I love the simplicity of the above.
I think this also fits the challenge words of 'peace' and 'looking up'.
A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
No I can't imagine but I know that it took a long, long time! I went on a guided tour recently - have lived here (7 miles away) for nearly 40 years and never been before.
You never go to places on your doorstep! They're right there and you know you'll go some time! I'd lived in West Sussex more than 40 years before I went to Arundel Castle! It was never more than 20 miles away, when in Worthing only 10.
I like Chichester cathedral as well, and the Chagall window. Have you seen the ceiling/dome he did in the Paris Opera House? Amazing, I took it on film but not digital - many years ago.
I haven't seen the ceiling/dome in Paris. If you go again please take a pic - the last time I went to Paris I was 16 and I don't cope well with big cities, hustle and bustle or too much travel now. Probably I can find a pic online - will look.
That's great, Ivan, and thank you, very kind. The ceiling is so typical of Chagall's paintings i've already seen! We came across an exhibition, quite by chance in France one holiday, of his ceramics which was interesting. I identify with your tenacity in the face of research and compiling info online! (btw I'm a bit concerned I may have given the impression of being a frail old lady (!) in my previous comment . The truth is I have bipolar disorder and have to manage my lifestyle well.)
Thanks again.
Have always admire the British Cathedrals for there unique architecture and the use of stone. ( when I saw one ) You did capture this one very beautifully with great details.
Lovely shot of this magnificent cathedral. Jules and I used to wander around Winchester a lot when we were courting (now there's an old fashioned word) :)
This is so very beautiful! Love the tones and pov as well as the arches. I am curious...how do find the "word" of the day, color of the day...etc.? Do you have to be an ace member...just haven't found my way around I guess. Thanks!!
Gena, this is the link for the info for word of the day for April and you don't have to be an ace member to do it. It's not so easy to locate on here I find and if you want to do it for April and then carry on in May just ask me again.
Perhaps you should just tag it with the appropriate word when you post it - I don't think it's critical to post a shot on the day of the challenge word.

Also on Youtube, give a fell of the place and the mural in its setting.

Enjoy! I'll send now, I keep losing these links and even the message, going back and forward! Third attempt!

They look beautiful clothes to paint in!
Yes, courting is an old-fashioned word now - is it because people don't do it now or because they don't call it that - I don't know!!
I think social changes/mores have been enormous in the past two generations.
I think that still sounds a bit old-fashioned!
