I was thinking that the flowers on the market stall would make some nice shots when Scott asked "Can I help you?". So I told him what I was thinking and he said no problem to take some photos. So I did and then said I'd probably buy a bunch on my way past back to the car later and maybe I could take his portrait too. He said no problem to that as well.
It was beautifully sunny and I enjoyed Winchester, trip into the cathedral, lunch of chicken and mushroom pie and seasonal veg in the cathedral refectory, a few shots in the market and then back to the flower stall. Scott was deep in conversation and his friend introduced himself to me as "Mark - or Bill" (more tomorrow).
I bought a bunch of Dutch daffodils and also took up the offer from Scott of the last bunch of purple stocks in their bucket at a greatly reduced price.
Then Mark - or Bill - offered to hold my bunches of flowers whilst I took a couple of shots of Scott. As often happens, I found later that the first shot was the best (I now have a little theory about this).
Scott runs his flower stall Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, and sometimes Sun, depending on how he feels, at Winchester Market.
He also has a stall near Henley-on-Thames. He sources his flowers from London and on the days when he has to fetch them he gets up at 4 a.m.
Purple sticks are my favourite but I have never seen them at this time if year! Scott has a great job even though he has an early start. Lovely portrait Hazel.
My theory is that for the first shot the subject has just been talking to/engaging with the photographer. After that the camera comes into play more. So now, if taking a few shots, I come out from behind the camera, say a few words to them etc. (When Ray takes my photo I'm smiling at him not the camera - but that's easier because I know him - very well!!)
Thank you and well done, Chris ( for the spelling!!!!!)
