A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Thatched are lovely but they do need lots of attention Hazel. The ones done our lane are always wanting combing. Beautiful brickwork here though, hollyhocks & the perfect coloured door!
My dad says they're a fire risk. I thought he was being ridiculous. A day later: sirens and the house next to my daughter's school burned to the ground.
Beautiful shot, love the brickwork. A great composition. I have a friend who lives at Guilden Morden in a thatch cottage. It is beautiful, but I would worry about fire and wildlife living in the thatch. I think I will stick to a tiled roof.
delightful display. I also don't see the problem why an insurance expert could not live in a thatched roof house? If walls are brick, then it should not be a fire hazard at all. Not more than a normal house. The smell of walking into one is unique.
Lovely garden gate and very pretty capture. Too bad, Hazel; we need to make compromises in life. I would live in a cabin in the mountain, and I live at the beach in Miami...
Yes, of course, compromises! I do like a lot of light so maybe I would be uncomfortable in a country cottage if I DID manage to have one - we have large windows in our house.

Oh yes, fire risk, high maintenance, small windows make them dark inside - I know it's all true but I love them!
Yes, practical is (probably) best!
How can you know me so well?!!!
Aha!!!!!
Thanks for your support, Nina, but the insurance premiums when you have a thatched cottage are testimony to the fire hazard - unfortunately!
Lovely to look at and photograph.
