@pyrrhula This just one tree - an old alder tree whose trunk splits into five quite near the base. We have it pruned from time to time but it costs a lot of ££s and it quickly grows again, as you will know and as you can see from the new growth this year.

Thanks everyone. I've learnt from a year of 365 that there are always photos to be found close at hand! This alder is just on the perimeter of the back garden, beyond our tiny stream.

@quietpurplehaze Indeed , If you once pruned a tree you`ve to do is always every 3-5 years again. In our country we do it to harvest the twigs we can use
