A small and belated September update for 2024, where I am still, after many years' membership, on 365 Project, also now posting elsewhere but wanting...
Aah Hazel --its nit the tools you have , but what you can co with your tools !!! Good luck to him !-- he has a lot to learn behind a simple camera 1st !!
He may be very keen, but I don't want to carry a humungous camera all the time. hence my Sony NEX, which has most of the functionality of a larger camera, albeit not quite so easy to use, as settings tend to be buried in menus (I missed a sunset the other evening while I tried to find the right camera setting!).
Thats pretty serious! But nice to see a kid enjoying photography! But I have realized its not necessary better having the latest and greatest...you need to have the "eye" for it...and I am still very much learning!
I think that being a member of this site, helps one get the 'eye' for taking good photos - just by doing, you don't have to make any special effort, which is nice!
A good bit of thinking, Karin. It would also be interesting to compare his shot of the swans with mine - I was thinking afterwards that mine was OK for a P&S!!!!!!!
Too right, Graham, rather thought -provoking for me!

I understand what you say as, for ages, I used my really old P&S for sunsets as I couldn't work out how to get them on my newer camera (still P&S!)
I'm sure most youngsters will be more expert than we were as children when it comes to cameras as they also are with computers.
