Walking with Jinks this morning I spied these juicy blackberries and remembered going blackberrying with my parents and sister and grandparents.
I guess the fruit was made into blackberry jelly or perhaps blackberry and apple crumble. I don't remember blackberry wine but I do remember my grandmother making wine from cowslips, dandelions, potatoes, and, best of all, raspberries and redcurrants. Her raspberry and redcurrant wine was the colour of rosé and had such a delicate taste. It was only after a couple of glasses on a summer afternoon that I had any idea it was anything but innocuous.
Lovely shot. Sign of Autumn on its way. We pick blackberries near the caravan. Usually make blackberry and apple snow -just a bit healthier than the crumble!
Ooh great memories of these fruit Which I dearly love - my late father always was the blackberrying king in our household --he knew where to find the cleanest ,biggest and the juiciest berries Even after I got married & moved away , my father would gather a basket -full for me when he knew I was going home on a visit So Hazel not achildhood memory for you but for me as well --thank you !
I remember picking dandelions for a friend to make dandelion wine and it was delicious:0) Your shot is lovely but we don't want autumn yet and blackberries always remind me of autumn
Glad to rekindle some memories, Beryl! I really wanted to do the memory of Christmas stockings but after an abortive attempt with a pair of popsocks from a friend, a satsuma, some pencils and a book, I found the blackberries on our walk. (I have no sugar mice.) The things we do for 365!
@quietpurplehaze Aren't they just! I wonder if it is due to the wet spring we had? Still there are worst things that apple and blackberry crumble aren't there:0))
Yummy, lovely shot Hazel, reminds me of my mother sending us out during school holidays to get us out of her hair!! Then we'd bring them back and she would soak them in salt water to get all the maggots out of them, yuk!! But we did get a lovely pie!
Yes I think she also made it out of stuff like wheat and parsnips! To my mind some of it tasted horrible but I guess being young I had an untutored palate! Raspberry and redcurrant - YES!
Well I knew if I picked them I'd have to buy apples and make a crumble so I left them there!!!!!!!!!!
The blackberries are so very early here this year.

Even better if somebody else makes it!!!!!!!!

I'm amazed how many people have memories of blackberrhying. Funny thing is that I had totally forgotten about the maggots!
