the old and the new

Another view of The Spinnaker, which can be seen from miles around.

In the foreground is the figurehead of HMS Marlborough, saved in 1925 when the ship was scrapped. HMS Marlborough, a 6500 ton 131 gun battle sailing ship built in 1855, was the last of her kind to have a figurehead. She became obsolete following the development of iron clad warships. She last went to sea in 1878, never having gone to battle.

The figurehead was placed here in 2002.
Interesting shot, Hazel

I like your pictures of Gun Wharf Quays. Hazel. You have shown so many imaginative angles to a place I have visited many times. Well, I am going there tomorrow so lets see if I can come up with something.
