mini beasties by quietpurplehaze

mini beasties

We visited West Dean Gardens, West Sussex, yesterday, a fairy-tale like place for gardeners and photographers.

This dahlia had quite a few visitors. It may not be immediately obvious that the stems (bottom right) are not black but covered in black beasties.
Both a beautiful AND icky photo! Nicely spotted and captured!

@juliedduncan

Oh well done - they are! Something else I've learnt from 365. NOW how can I work that into everyday conversation!!! Thanks!

The earwigs sure love the dahlias....wonder what attracts them so. Always a colourful display.

Lovely close up. Learnt something new today; ladybird larvae. Isn't 365 wonderful? Okay, your beasties are beestjes in Dutch.

Beautiful colour and detail. Love the little bug

Goodness me - I thought my flowers were bad enough, but these really are covered. Hope mine are ladybird larvae!

@gijsje

I think that beestjes is not too difficult to remember, thank you! But the pronunciation is my downfall in Dutch.

@quietpurplehaze You're welcome! Might be challenging to work it into a conversation though. Ha ha! ;)

Beautiful flower!

Aah !! the beauty an the beasts !!--well captured Hazel !
June 27th, 2015
@beryl Second this. I gather that the stm is covered with a vine louse collony. But lucky your photo shows the daliha has some little helpers. The bigger "beats" in the centre are ladybird crubs and as so know they enjoy eating vine lice

What a lovely colour. I noticed rather too many little beasties on my flowers when deadheading today, definitely seem to be more than usual!
