mini beasties
We visited West Dean Gardens, West Sussex, yesterday, a fairy-tale like place for gardeners and photographers.
This dahlia had quite a few visitors. It may not be immediately obvious that the stems (bottom right) are not black but covered in black beasties.

Lovely close up. Learnt something new today; ladybird larvae. Isn't 365 wonderful? Okay, your beasties are beestjes in Dutch.

I think that beestjes is not too difficult to remember, thank you! But the pronunciation is my downfall in Dutch.

Second this. I gather that the stm is covered with a vine louse collony. But lucky your photo shows the daliha has some little helpers. The bigger "beats" in the centre are ladybird crubs and as so know they enjoy eating vine lice

What a lovely colour. I noticed rather too many little beasties on my flowers when deadheading today, definitely seem to be more than usual!
