a French château by quietpurplehaze

a French château

I'm joining flashofred2016 for February but I know that I shall not find enough b&w shots to complete so I'm starting with a shot from my archive.

I felt it would have good contrast, shadows and shapes for a B&W shot so it's converted from colour to greyscale on FastStone. I also upped the contrast a bit and cropped the bottom of the shot for a better balance from the original which was taken as an in-camera panorama

Critique welcome, please!

Thanks, Ann, @Olivetreeann for organising this. It's certainly much-needed inspiration for me in Feb.
Looks brilliant to me ...which chateau is it please?

@pennystot

It's le Goulaine, near Nantes.

Thought it might be the Loire region.

Although a BIG fan of colour I must admit this edit in B/W is great , in fact I prefer it to the colour version ! The only thing I miss is the blue sky which in fact I find rather overpowering as the chateau is such a pale stone . As you say ,and very rightly so , the symmetry, contrast , shadows and light are all enhanced and are more prominent without the distraction of the blue sky . A nice one Hazel !

Beautiful in black and white and perfect for Flash of Red February! I'm learning so much from this theme already!

@beryl

Thank you for your comment and critique, Beryl. I prefer it in b&w too. If it hadn't been for doing flashofred2016 I would never have converted it. I've come to the conclusion that sunshine creates a good b&w photo!!

Looks brilliant, nice processing. I think you have captured the shadows and light perfectly. The increased contrast really emphases the detail.
