I did have some trouble with the colour 'cast' of the indoor artificial lights. I keep my white balance set AWB and really am never sure what 'category' lights come into i.e. fluorescent etc. Any pointers for future ref will be appreciated! I quite like b&w portraits and it's good in these situations.
I'm never sure either, so I go through the options and look at my view screen for reference. It works pretty well and keeps me from having to learn a lot of technical jargon about white balance. Ha ha ha! Nice shot, Hazel!
@quietpurplehaze Now that's an interesting question Hazel I tend to turn my white balance to Tungston if the lighting is the bulb type (Yellow) Fluorescent if its strip lighting (Bluey/green), I leave the white balance on auto if its LED lighting (White Light) the more accurate way is to use the custom Kelvin settings on your camera, Kelvin is a scale for measuring heat, and it’s used in photography to measure colour temperature, but this is very time consuming to set up to suit all lighting situations I only use this method in Infra Red photography:)
Peter, thank you. It has to be something simple especially on such occasions. The light appeared to be yellow so I could try some shots with tungsten when a similar situation arises.
Interesting chat to Bob Hazel! I don’t think you could help yourself asking for his photo!! You & I both have twelve days of Christmas in our thoughts! Strangely for me I like the black & white best here....seems more in keeping for the era to me!
