The grip of the Internet, making communication instant, has fundamentally overturned what used to be the sending of a thoughtful letter or card to mark appropriate occasions and no need for stamps. This saddens me. La Poste, the French Post Office has for as long as I can remember been and continues to be, pro-active in issuing commemoratives stamps. For example: WW personalities, postcard type views, animals, Red Cross, musical instruments...and so on. You can design and order personalised stamps on line too. Think also of important anniversaries, weddings etc. I love having a selection of stamps at any one time and choose with thought the stamp I think is the most appropriate for the recipient. Sad? Perhaps? I like to think that a moment’s reflection to make a considered choice enables me to feel closer to those far away.

@olivetreeann@mcsiegle@Dawn@kwind@craftymeg@hajeka Thank you Ann, Mary, Dawn, KWind, Margaret and Henk-Jan for your views and comments. @s4sayer Margo, I never thought to buy other types of stamps for special days. I usually have the basic business ones (flags right now), something pretty or artistic for cards and notes and of course Christmas stamps to mail those Christmas cards, which I still write. If the postal service is to remain viable we all have to write letters and mail packages.
