I spent the day in Pasadena and was fortunate to be able to visit a historic home in the American Craftsman style of architecture which focuses on the use of natural materials, attention to detail and masterful craftsmanship. Just spent a short time on the exterior and plan to return to tour the interior at another time.
The Gamble House of Pasadena is an outstanding example of Arts and Crafts Movement. Designed in 1908 by Greene and Greene for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company, it is now a National Historic Landmark open for public tours.
The triple front doors feature a Japanese black pine motif in plated leaded art glass to highlight the Asian influence that runs throughout the interior of the three-story home.
@taffy The Gamble House is open for public tours most days-- we just got there too late to tour yesterday. The USC School of Architecture is involved with restoration of the site and gardens.
