The Burmese are deeply devoted to their faith. Close to 90 percent of the population practices Therevada Buddhism, which means "Teaching of the Elders." This young monk is one of many children we visited in the monastery schools throughout Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. Many children spend part or all of their childhood in the monasteries learning Buddhist traditions. There, they are housed, fed and schooled in reading, math and English. It was an amazing opportunity to be able to interact with joyful young monks and nuns, observing them as they played and studied.
