There are more than 38 different species of Iguana found in Costa Rica. This one is a Ctenosaur, similar to the Green Iguana, but it lacks head spines. They are plant eaters, about a meter in length and spend most of their time climbing trees. Looks best on black.
When I was in kindergarden, a neighbor had an iguana that liked to sunbathe on the sidewalk. I told my mother I was afraid to walk to school because I saw an alligator. She didn't believe me until one day I made her walk me to school and there it was, blocking the walkway. I didn't tell her that from that time on,I always crossed the street to walk on the other side in case it was still there.
Fun shot. Ah, cute story, and the memory of that you probably will never forget. We've seen a lot of these guys in our travels too. Heading to South America on Friday... Wonder how many we'll come across this time.
Ha...cute story. They are pretty ominous looking creatures and can bit bully's. I encountered one in St. Thomas. I was sitting in my chair in his pathway. He just stood there staring at me...wanting me to move. I tried to shoo him away and he moved toward me...and just stared again. I decided to take the peaceful way and moved. He then went on his way...hahah.
