La Farmacia de Santa Maria Novella still sells its famous Aqua di Rose fragrance, developed by Dominican friars as an antiseptic during the Black Plague in the 13th century. Today it is sold in the form of perfume. This 600-year old pharmacy was originally an apothecary dispensing herbal remedies and it continues to offer fragrant colognes, soaps and beauty creams. Interesting that we find ourselves in similar times- You’ll notice the salesperson is masked and so were many customers in the shop.
What a treasure this is! I've seen pictures of one of our local pharmacies from the turn of the century that reminded me of this style of building. Beautiful
