Vandalism or Art?

I saw a number of interesting doorways throughout the city of Florence and was quite attracted to this set of brass lion’s head door knockers. Some say graffiti is just art on a different canvas but I’ll bet the homeowners weren’t exactly thrilled with this form of contemporary artistic expression. On the other hand, they didn’t remove it, so perhaps they liked the contrasting styles.
Leaves me pondering. First impression - it spoiled the beauty, but then there is the other way of looking at it I guess.

@kali66 Agree! Elizabeth, I'm of the school that taught respect for the property of others. In 2022 if seems no one is supposed to say how they truly feel as they try to voice acceptance of a popular notion. You and I know one another, so I hope you understand I don't want to disparage you, but in my opinion, Firenze doesn't deserve such disrespect! Get a canvas to hang in your own room!

Looks like vandalism to me.

Probably just didn't want to give them a clean canvas. It's still vandalism. Like the lion heads, but the rest should go.

@milaniet @phil_howcroft @kali66 @Weezilou @cwbill @rickster549 Thanks so much for your comments. I was actually shocked to see so much graffiti (not street art) in both Florence and Rome, cities that have a treasure trove of historic art and sculpture.

It's definitely not art and definitely graffiti however it does make a good urban street photo - thus turning vandalism into art, so it's now both 😀
