Another travel day...

9½ hours by auto. 580 miles (933 km). Clare's mom's neighbor is a master gardener, so I have a plethora of flowers from which to choose … starting here with one I don't even know. But I will find out!
Also: view this magnified!

Edit [a year later]: Allium. Other common names: Chives, Garlic, Onion, Scallion, Shallots, Stars Of Persia.

Cool flower. We have some of them in our formal garden where work. Very beautiful

that looks like a dried allium - they are beautiful purple (or white) globes when in bloom, and almost equally attractive dried - often used in dried arrangements. Those black things are seeds that have yet to fall onto the ground.

A good focus. I planted alliums to attract butterflies. They are great for photographing when in bloom or dried and as a bonus to photograph the butterflies they attract.

@sitiodown @jtookey150 Exactly right: allium. Also, apparently, "globe master" or "globemaster". And thank you, Edie S!

@barbara @michelleyoung @angievega @digitalrn Thank you, all! Not knowing anything about the flower, I had no idea how beautiful they are at their peak. Obviously, I was struck by the spherical "spoke" structure!
