(Hey, it’s not a butterfly or moth!)
We are on our way to Roswell, New Mexico, to visit a friend from our days in Rhode Island more than 40 years ago. She was Clare’s office-mate at Clare’s first after-college job. Along the way out-and-back, we will visit three state capitols and Clare will visit one of the two remaining states she has not visited (Oklahoma).
Today we drove 5+ hours (340 miles) to Little Rock, Arkansas, and toured the state capitol. I shot this in a hurry as our two-hour street parking was expiring. Leveled a smidge in ON1 Photo Raw.
Our parking was expiring because the tour “ran long,” which is an interesting story, with an even-more interesting epilog.
We found ourselves on a tour with a family of four … and an Arkansas state senator who represented the district of the family-of-four on our tour. The senator took us a few places where tours normally don’t go, which was pretty cool. »
State Capitol Tour Information
Arkansas State Capitol Tour gimmick. At the end of the usual capitol tour stops, our tour guide took us to the Treasurer of State’s vault where we each had an opportunity to hold six bundled stacks of $100,000 in U.S. currency. Weighing 21 pounds, it was surprisingly heavy. I may have to post a photo of me holding the money in my extras album, but here are
photos of others.
The Epilog. I googled the state senator who guided much of our tour. Nice guy. Former youth pastor. Small businessman who runs a family flooring and design business. “On June 27, 2022, [he] was stripped of his committee chairmanships and reprimanded by the Arkansas Senate Ethics Committee for fraudulently claiming per diem and travel reimbursements for meetings he did not attend.” Further, he had asked a fellow senator to sign him in at the meeting he did not attend.
Politics, eh?
We didn’t linger in Little Rock, as we wanted to equalize the miles across the three-day drive as much as we can. So we drove on to Conway, AR, where we had excellent food and drink at
