A space comparison…

The CDs and DVDs in the jewel cases hold about 3 years of digital images (jpgs and — beginning earlier this year — RAW). The notebooks hold more than 27 years of film negatives. Getting prints from negatives may become a difficult-to-find service but I suspect there will be occasional migrations of digital images to new formats and hardware devices over time as well. After all, once upon a time there were 3½" and 5¼" floppies… And, of course more recently, there were 100Mb and 250Mb Zip disks. For now we're all betting that USB will be around and OSs will recognize and read our external hard drives.
Oh wow that sure is a lot!!

So many memories in all of the cases and binders!

@shellbelle I should probably take a shot of my wife standing behind the family photo albums. An interesting question: which will be taller?!

@jendee3 Indeed, Jen! That's why the shot is from my campus office. If the house goes up in flames, I'll keep the local photo shop busy for weeks, but I'll be able to replace any shots. Hmmm -- I probably ought to scan the wedding photos…

@sitiodown I know! Right!?!

@digitalrn Uh, sometimes...

@shellbelle Thanks, Michelle. I'd probably take some rough measurements first, to see how worth-it or not-worth-it it might be! Thanks for the encouragement!
