This guy was in this place two stories up when I took the trash to the curb. Surely he'll be gone by the time I go upstairs, grab my camera, change lenses, go back downstairs and quietly approach outside again. Lazy bird. Just content to perch here and squawk, squawk, squawk. Then again, he let me get this shot, so thanks, man.
From http://www.audubon.org/field-guide/bird/northern-cardinal » “One of our most popular birds, the Cardinal is the official state bird of no fewer than seven eastern states. Abundant in the Southeast, it has been extending its range northward for decades, and it now brightens winter days with its color and its whistled song as far north as southeastern Canada. Feeders stocked with sunflower seeds may have aided its northward spread. West of the Great Plains, the Cardinal is mostly absent, but it is locally common in the desert Southwest.”

@definitelydeb Thanks, Deb! I can't believe it took me until #424 to finally capture a cardinal, but this was worth the wait. Zoomed out to maximum (250mm) and this shot is heavily cropped to fill the image frame.
Wow, that's a great shot with the sharp blue sky behind him. I like the feathery branch he's perched on and that you can see his tail through it. Nice job. Glad he's a lazy bird and waited so long for you to come back.
it snowed again last night
