Low-back rocker: ‘John D. Raab Chair Co.’ by rhoing

Low-back rocker: ‘John D. Raab Chair Co.’

I didn’t notice this rocker until recently; I love the craftsmanship of the curved arms! The chair belongs to Clare’s friend, Bobbie, “mom” to Kit and MT of previous posts.

Regarding the rocker, the label under the seat identifies the manufacturer as “John D. Raab Chair Co. // Grand Rapids, Mich.” Googling the company name turns up that the company was in business from 1903 until 1921, when it was purchased by “Furniture Shops of Grand Rapids”.

The “Luce Furniture Shops of Grand Rapids” began in 1879 and combined with “Furniture Shops of Grand Rapids” in 1925, operating until it closed in 1938.

it's a beautiful chair ~ we have one very similar ~ same curved arms and front legs, but not a rocker. It also has a padded seat. This makes an interesting photo ~ nice lines and colors ~ nice lighting, too

@sitiodown The things I see now make we wonder about what I have missed in my previous 4 decades with cameras in hand....

ha ~ it is interesting how everything is seen through the eyes of a photographer now ~ and as a potential photo ;-)

@sitiodown @rhoing Exactly... why does everything suddenly seem like a "Potential Picture"? That being said... @rhoing I think this picture (and the rocking chair) is (are) gorgeous.

@sitiodown Precisely! … and I haven't shot many frames yet today…

@definitelydeb Thank you, Deb! I had three possibles and I initially liked this one least, but I asked @dandtsgal and she liked this one best. Since I asked her, I went with it and I'm liking it more!

Thom - isn't it amazing how we now look at things so much differently than we did before 365?? Things that have always been around that we've never paid attention to now have such beauty and character to them. I really feel that my eyes are opened now for the first time in so many years!
