Finally! I still want to determine what kind it is, but I finally photographed a non-Eastern Amberwing!
In all likelihood, a female Eastern Pondhawk (Erythemis simplicicollis); see http://bugguide.net/node/view/577
Females remain green; young males are green, but turn to blue.
Note: I still hadn't noticed that the camera had reset the date-and-time, but this image was taken July 23, 2012, and not 1/1/2000! (“I swear I am not making this up”!)

@ladyjane Thanks, Jane! I was dumbfounded to see this continually landing. We have three or four types of dragonflies flying around our garden, but only the Eastern Amberwings had lit on a plant until this week.
